The Arts and Humanities includes courses in a number of disciplines including history, foreign languages, sociology, psychology, communication, fine arts, and many more. It is a solid foundation for students pursuing a four-year degree in a variety of areas, including liberal arts, business, education, social sciences, nursing, and other professional programs that require a strong liberal arts background.

The Associate in Arts program concentrates heavily on the humanities and social sciences and is recommended for those who plan to continue in a Bachelor of Arts program.

The Associate in Fine Arts program is part of the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement which allows graduates of this program to transfer to one of the constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina System. Graduates completing the Associate in Fine Arts degree will have demonstrated the ability to achieve academic and other learning goals in their study area enhancing employment opportunities. This program includes coursework in Music.

The Health and Fitness Science program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the fitness and exercise industry.
Students will be trained in exercise science and be able to administer basic fitness tests and health risk appraisals, teach specific exercise and fitness classes and provide instruction in the proper use of exercise equipment and facilities.

The Interpreter Education curriculum prepares individuals to work as entry-level Sign Language Interpreters who will provide communication access in interview and interactive settings. In addition, this curriculum provides in-service training for working interpreters who want to upgrade their skills.
FTCC partners with Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) to offer the Interpreter Education program. Students can take classes on FTCC’s campus through the North Carolina Information Highway and online courses.
Course work includes the acquisition of American Sign Language (ASL); grammar, structure, and sociolinguistic properties; cognitive processes associated with interpretation between ASL and English; the structure and character of the deaf community; and acquisition of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills.
