Learn how to evaluate information for credibility, accuracy, and relevance in your academic and everyday research.

What is a Filter Bubble?

A filter bubble happens when websites use algorithms to show you only the information they think you want to see, based on your past clicks, searches, and location. This can limit what you’re exposed to and block out different opinions, leading to intellectual isolation. Examples include personalized search results on Google and customized news feeds on Facebook.
